Routine Monitoring

We recommend all those with Asthma or Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD, which includes chronic bronchitis and emphysema) have a routine check-up with our trained asthma nurse at least annually. Children should be reviewed every 6 months. We will check on your symptoms, lung function, and inhaler technique to ensure you are not over or under-treated.

Flare-ups

If your cough or breathing suddenly deteriorate please contact the asthma nurse for a review as soon as possible. If there is no prompt appointment available ask to speak to the duty doctor who can see you the same day.

Vaccinations

If you have asthma or COPD you are entitled to a free annual 'flu vaccination each Autumn. You can also have a one off pneumonia vaccine reducing the risk of pneumonia for life.

Resources Peakflow

If you have a peak flow meter (you can obtain one on prescription from your doctor to monitor your asthma) you can check an average peak flow for you age/sex/height for adults and children.
